After months of very badly keeping it under my hat (it’s a bit of a giveaway when I do nothing else but surround myself with books and type), I am delighted to announce my new book:
Household Lore: Folklore, Traditions and Remedies For Every Room in Your Home
Unsurprisingly it’s about the weird and wonderful folklore we find in our homes! Every chapter is a new room from the attic to the basement and then into the garden. You’ll find ways to protect your home from evil spirits and lightning strikes, learn how not to annoy bees and hedgehogs, how you should always keep salt and potatoes in your kitchen, what to do when cutlery, crockery and linen go rogue, when it’s safe to do your washing and cut your nails, what household helpers and hinderers are hanging out in your nooks and crannies, how to sauce up your bedroom using hummus and cleavage sweat, and what farmyard animal to loiter next to should you need to sober up in the event of an emergency (I wouldn’t advise, it’s not pleasant).
It’s out on 11 November and you can pre-order your copy here: https://watkinspublishinglinks.com/householdlore
Meantime, now there’s a bit of a lull before starting the next one and this publishing, I have some time on my hands. So if you have any questions about your household or problems around your home you need solving, just get in touch using the Folklore Agony contact form. Wondering how to get rid of moths? Want to know how to placate a household deity? Or how to find love when hoovering? Just ask and I’ll investigate the folklore to make it all better. You can also read up on previous dilemmas here. Finally, I’ve pretty much ditched Twitter but please come and say hello on Bluesky instead!

Ordered! I’m so excited!
Thank you JD!
And ordered (the link didn’t work so I had to go directly to the Watkins site.
Aw, thanks Freyalyn!
