I am super stoked to announce that Household Lore has been recorded as an audiobook! And not just that, it has been recorded by one of my most favourite voice actors, Kristin Atherton!
I first discovered Kristin Atherton when I decided to revisit Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. At the time, I was knee deep in writing Household Lore and my brain was so fried I couldn’t read anything for fun, it was just research material and more research material. So as a way to decompress after all the grave robbing, horseshoe hanging and salt spilling, I took to listening to audio books. I had forgotten how much I loved Howl’s Moving Castle. It’s so much better than the film (don’t @ me). Listening to Diana Wynne Jones’s ridiculously funny story and Kristin’s excellent narration, it fast became my audio comfort blanket. So after listening to it (more than) a couple of times, I started on the two sequels. I then skipped to Kristin narrating The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman and by the time I’d finished writing Household Lore, I’d listened to all eight in that series too. So when my publisher asked who I might like to narrate Household Lore, it was kind of a no brainer. Needless to say I was beyond excited when she said yes!
The audiobook will be available across multiple platforms, so wherever you normally get yours, you should be able to get this one. There’s currently no pre-order date but it will be released with the hardcopy and ebook on 11 November! But if you can’t wait until then, here is a sneak peak (you don’t need Instagram, just click the image and pop your sound up)…
And for everyone who has, or is thinking of pre-ordering Household Lore, keep an eye out for a little announcement soon about receiving some free bonus material with your book. Best you order now so as not to be disappointed… Please support your local independent bookseller wherever possible.
Although the book is wry and written with a sparkly, affectionate sense of humour, the wisdom shines brightly and the stories serve to make household chores a lot more interesting.” ~ The Green Parent Magazine
By the way, I still listen to Howl’s Moving Castle every couple of weeks when I can’t decide what to listen to next. I promise you, it’s so much better than the film.
