Bonus Day Instructions – 26 October 2023

Happy UK Publication Day to me!

The Everyday Lore Project started on 7 January 2020 and ended on 6 January 2021, and now two and a half years later with a more collective focus and some rather marvellous illustrations, Everyday Folklore: An almanac for the ritual year will be perched on shelves and thumping on doorsteps, just like the Devil with his bag of fleas on 1 March

To celebrate this achievement, I’ll be taking my cue from Worldwide Howl at the Moon Night (which also happens to fall on today’s date) and shall be escaping to the woods tonight with a lovely bunch of friends for a yowl before raising a glass at the nearby pub.

So for your bonus day folklore task, I’d be delighted if you would join me in spirit around 8pm BST for a celebratory howl and a jar be you in front of the duff duffs of Eastenders, searching the aisles of your local supermarket, on your commute, or trying to impress on a first date. It’s been a ripe old year so feel free to let your inner wolf rip for some catharsis. And once you’re done, don’t forget to have a spoonful of honey, said to be a great soother of throats.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me during all aspects of getting the book together, including the last week! And especially, thank you to everyone for buying it. Have I mentioned it makes for a rather lovely stocking filler…?

Right. I may or may not be back tonight to fill you in on the howling. It kind of depends when the festivities end. But I will be back on Halloween, which incidentally is publication day for the US and Australia, as we have some bay leaf divination results to share… Until then, keep plucking those leaves and remember, no peeking!
